Raised in the mountains of North Carolina, Halie Warring has been drawing and imaging new worlds. As a child she taught herself to draw by studying images in her father’s Art History textbooks. Warring began herformal arts education at the University of the North Carolina School of the Arts in 2005, where she developed a strong studio ethic and sense of arts professionalism.
After completing the Visual Arts program at UNCSA, Warring continued her drawing studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Warring’s first job out of college was cutting out comps for the Winston-Salem- based design agency, RC Graphics Studio, Inc. She learned Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in her spare time and was soon asked to stay on as a graphic designer for the agency.
Graphic design has since strongly influenced Warring’s drawing and illustration work over the years, taking her preferred media from graphite and oil paint to precision ink pens and pixels. Even now, Warring draws in her sketchbooks constantly, for they are her closest companions. The drawings on
display in Visual Index reflect Warring’s intensive sketchbook practice.
Warring has made the city of Winston Salem her home for the last ten years along side her loving and
talented husband and fellow UNCSA alumni Sean Warring.
