KATIE BROBST | TENNESSEE
Growing up in Tennessee, I have always been fond of acoustic instruments as they have always been in the background of just about anything that goes on in throughout the state. As time went on, I realized just how beautiful these objects are that create such amazing noises and soundtracks to daily lives. Just as breathtaking are the artists who play them. I became inspired to start painting instrument portraits after picking up a fiddle and starting to learn how to play it. I realized very quickly how lively each instrument is in it’s own right. Whether I am painting a 100-year-old banjo or a brand new guitar, I seek to bring the instruments to life in a whole new dimension through my paintings. Capturing the years of wear and trying to imagine what expansive travels each instrument has been on. Each piece is unique and tells a different tale.
