BETHANY HADDEN

CARY, NORTH CAROLINA

My work is an exploration of material, texture and trials. I make mostly smaller pieces that are versatile and created on different wood whether it be recycled building materials or old wood cabinet doors. It’s not just the painting and art part I enjoy, but the process to get there such as the cutting, sanding and prepping material for work. It’s lethargic.

Each piece I create is a slice of self-expression pie from finding the beauty in old things to giving a quirky personality to a simple animal. I tend to display graphic design and pattern elements throughout my art. I experiment with different techniques, textures and objects such as plaster, stencils, handmade stamps and painted paper.

The idea of the outcome having endless possibilities intrigues me and pushes my desire to move forward. I pick an animal or a subject and just work around that idea in a spontaneous way. With each piece I develop the beginning of a story and the rest is open for wonder.
